Performance Management and Difficult Conversations

Performance Management and Difficult Conversations

Turn underperformance into action- confidently and legally.

Turn underperformance into action- confidently and legally.

Without the right skills and legal knowledge, too many managers avoid these conversation altogether, hoping the problem resolves itself. It rarely does.

Avoiding underperformance doesn’t make it go away. It erodes team morale, breeds resentment, and leaves organisations exposed when the situation eventually escalates to termination-without the documentation or process to back it up.

Why Performance Management Issues Occur

When performance isn’t managed, it rarely improves simply because a manager hopes it will. When concerns aren’t address early, managers can find themselves dealing with a much bigger problem later.

Common Challenges include:

01

Avoiding Difficult Conversations

Managers delay raising concerns because they don't know how the employee will respond.
02

Inconsistent Management

Different employees are managed differently, creating confusion and potential fairness concerns.
03

Unclear Expectations

Employees may not understand exactly what is expected of them or what needs to change.
04

Poor Documentation

Important conversations, examples and agreed actions aren't recorded clearly.
